At the end of the summer term all pupils in Years 7 and 8 perform in an annual production. This year they have adapted the script and created films instead through recorded Teams calls and individual videos. The students have worked with admirable enthusiasm and resilience, responding to the challenges of this new project with excitement and focus in equal measure.
Mrs Morgan, Head of Drama at Embley, commented: “It has been a joy to be greeted on weekly Teams calls by pupils dressed up in wacky costume items that they’ve sourced from around the house, ready to create some bold and interesting characters. We have acted and giggled our way through the term’s lessons in true dramatic style to ensure that ‘The show will go on!’.”
7A presented Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach, creating the story’s entertaining characters with commitment and enthusiasm; 7B presented another well-loved Dahl tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, bringing to life some of literature’s most eccentric characters in a hilarious and memorable performance; 8A performed Hansel and Gretel and The Goose Girl at the Spring from Philip Pullman’s collection of the classic Grimm Tales, utilising their creativity and story-telling skills to present a charming version of these well-known tales; and, from the same collection by Pullman, 8B produced a tremendously engaging performance of Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Men in the Woods.
The pupils will be watching their streamed films in their lessons next week and will have access to the link to share with their families. Congratulations to all performers on such a successful project! Popcorn at the ready…
