Spanish A Level
Studying a Modern Foreign Language at A Level can open up a wealth of new opportunities and experiences. Spanish A Level builds on the core skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking gained through GCSE. During this course, you will develop a deeper understanding of Spanish in a variety of contexts and genres, and learn to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively for a range of purposes.
Our lessons are largely taught in Spanish and our small class sizes mean that you will quickly develop your oral fluency and confidence, with individual guidance given in every lesson and plenty of opportunities for pair work, group discussions and lively debates.
As part of the course, you will study a wide range of topics including: social issues and trends; political, intellectual and artistic culture; immigration and multicultural societies; and the Arts, literature and history – such as the Spanish Civil War and magic realism in Latin-American literature. As well as textbooks, we use newspaper articles, magazines, books, online resources and study trips which provide you with plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the language. At the end of this two-year course, you will be assessed through three exams: two written assessments and an internally conducted and externally assessed speaking paper.
