Business A Level
Studying Business at A Level develops the skills and attitudes that underpin innovation, creativity and enterprise.
Our Business Studies Department comprises teachers from different commercial backgrounds including banking, accounting and human resources, who apply their experiences in lessons to help provide a real world context to business theory.
We use a wide range of teaching methods that will enable you to develop commercial awareness. Through contemporary case studies and current business news items, we bring to life the complexities of UK and global business. All students take part in the national Tycoon in Schools competition: in previous years our students have been awarded start-up loans from the Peter Jones Foundation on the strength of their business plans. You will benefit from participating in Student Investor, field trips to commercial organisations and guest lectures from a wide range of business professionals.
Through independent learning projects, we foster a spirit of enquiry and a critical approach to thinking about business problems. You will learn how to evaluate alternative solutions to problems in the face of uncertainty, and the importance of evaluating outcomes and learning from mistakes.
The course covers the core themes of marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategy, and global business. You will be assessed through three written exams at the end of the course.
