The Food Technology Centre is always popular. The delicious aromas emitting from the room attract both students and staff alike. Year 7 and 8 students have timetabled Food & Nutrition lessons where they learn basic cooking skills by making a range of sweet and savoury dishes which they take home with pride. Nutrition, health and safety in a kitchen environment is also taught so students have a better awareness of what they should be eating and how to cook safely.
The after-school cooking club is very popular and students prepare a wide variety of quick and simple dishes that they can try again at home. Many of our Duke of Edinburgh students use cooking club for the skills section of their Bronze award and have benefited greatly from the experience. In Sixth Form, cooking is offered as part of our co-curriculum and students try different recipes that would be useful when studying away from home or for when they have their first kitchen.
Our annual House Masterchef competition is always over-subscribed and the heats and final are busy with willing volunteers to judge the fantastic results.
