Pupils from Embley’s Year 5 were joined by pupils from Sherborne House, Ballard, Princes Mead, Romsey Abbey and Whiteparish schools for the first in a series of six Maths Masterclasses to be held this academic year at Embley.

Our presenter was from the Royal Institution who created a new masterclass based on Florence Nightingale, particularly for Embley’s event and to mark the 200th anniversary of Miss Nightingale’s birth in 2020.

Among the challenges were a mathematical treasure hunt based on the important years in Florence’s life and an activity that showed the power of visualising data to understand its numerical meaning.
