Covid-19: Providing Continuity of Learning

All  pupils at the Prep School took part in this year’s Sports Day, with some outstanding performances, team work and support on show. The pupils all rose to the occasion, creating a fantastic atmosphere in support of their houses. Chichester House was crowned the overall winner!

The day began at 9.00am with the Nursery children, who have spent the half term perfecting their running technique and mastering obstacle courses. All of them ran their socks off but most importantly they all did so with a smile. It was a perfect start to what turned out to be a lovely summers day at Embley.

Reception, Year 1 and 2 were the next to enter the arena, and also completed their running races (25m sprint, 50m sprint and obstacle course) as well as sampling a number of field events. Working round the events in their House groups, they took part in traditional athletics events such as the javelin and long jump, as well as staple Prep Sports’ Day disciplines, the ‘tennis ball throw’ and ‘bean bag accuracy shooting’.

Key Stage 2 were next to go and were taken up to the 400m track, long jump sand pit and designated throwing areas. All pupils were involved and each was given the opportunity to attempt all field events (high jump, long jump, discus and javelin) as well as run at least one race. The cheering was deafening as each House got behind their respective athletes with some tremendous times being set on the track and impressive distances thrown and jumped. Stopping for a BBQ and ice cream from Carlo’s at lunch, all pupils were able to relax before Year 5 and 6 relays brought the day to a close. These two races were the perfect climax to the day, both ending with photo finishes as all runners gave their all.

Congratulations to all our Prep athletes for an inspirational day of sport!
