Following the huge success of our last musical production of Billy Elliot – which featured 50 pupils from Years 5 – 13 in three sell-out performances last December – we are delighted to be launching our next musical. The chosen show is the highly entertaining Little Shop of Horrors and our run will extend to four evening performances this year, due to high demand.
Little Shop of Horrors is classed as a ‘horror comedy rock musical’ and tells the story of a hapless florist who raises a killer plant. The musical features an amazing score by Alan Menken, who also penned the scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin among many others.
As a show, it’s fun and totally bonkers and we’re going to have such an enjoyable time rehearsing and performing it! Virtual rehearsals for Senior School pupils started this week and the pupils’ enthusiasm has been uplifting. Auditions for lead roles will take place later this term and pupils in Year 4 to 6 and those who will be joining our school community in September will also have an opportunity to audition.
Pupils who would like some other creative challenges can visit the remote learning page on the Drama Learning Space. Here, you can find links to a vast array of live theatre performances that can be streamed from home and we would welcome pupils to submit a review of the performance they’ve watched. The page also features some creative challenges and links to some excellent dance resources as well.
