Congratulations to Sixth Form student Holly who has been awarded a gold medal from the British Biology Olympiad and also to fellow student Connie who was awarded ‘Commended’.

The British Biology Olympiad is part of an international competition for pre-university students which tests their practical and theoretical Biology skills.

The competition brings together students from all around the world and tries to both challenge and stimulate their curiosity in the bio-sciences. It is an opportunity for students to expand their talents.

Over 700 schools from 70 countries (a total of over 9,400 students) took part this year, out of which 7% won a gold medal.

Holly, who hopes to read Medicine at university, was both surprised and delighted with the award, which will be officially presented at a ceremony in London which will be hosted by the Royal Society of Biology.

“I was delighted by Holly’s performance in this competition. She has worked hard throughout the two years of A level Biology and has immersed herself in this subject. To achieve a Gold Medal is outstanding and I am very proud of her,” said Mrs Miller, Head of Biology.
