Year 10 and 11 Music students travelled to Salisbury to watch the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) GCSE Concert which was presented by Patrick Bailey, the BSO’s Associate Musician.
Patrick took the students on a musical tour through history and discussed pieces in the students’ GCSE syllabus. The concert ranged from baroque and classical pieces, to 20th century ballet, folk and pop music. The musicians broke the pieces into small chunks and analysed the various musical elements throughout the two hour concert. After the concert, Maria in Year 11 commented: “The trip to see the orchestra play our set works was very exciting and educational. It was nice to see professionals perform.”
Tara In Year 11 added: “It was such a great experience. I loved listening live to the set works I’m studying. Not only did it cement the knowledge I already had but it also introduced me to a wider range of musical vocabulary and different musical styles.”
