The Prep School held a scientific careers afternoon for children from Reception through to Year 6. The pupils took part in a range of dynamic and varied workshops led by a team of science, technology, engineering and Mathematics (STEM) ambassadors from the design, engineering, ecology, science, space and communication sectors.

Pupils were encouraged to be passionate and were advised ‘If something you think of doesn’t exist then go for it, design it, make it!’

One ambassador described engineering as a super power and explained how special it is to be able to look at the things around you and understand how they work. Another said he believed that in the future there will be more robotics in a variety of careers, with lots of drones and a need for drone pilots. Pupils were asked to consider working in the field of space; careers that are sometimes overlooked but which could include working with telecoms or studying planets.

After the event, Head of Prep, Mrs Phillips, commented: “It was wonderful to see pupils engaging in the various STEM activities, asking thoughtful questions and broadening their ideas about future career possibilities”.
