This week ‘Embley Explorers’ looked at the symbolism of the Green Man and made their own Green Men to protect the woods at Embley.
The Green Man is an ancient Pagan symbol, believed to represent the cycle of life, death and re-birth. He heralds the arrival of spring after a long winter and the renewal of lush vegetation. Using sticks and leaves found on the woodland floor children at Embley’s newest after-school club enjoyed embellishing their clay creations, with some impressive results.
Last week the older Explorers began mastering the skill of knot tying, whilst the younger children made stick men with inspiration from the popular children’s book ‘Stick Man’. Be careful you may find one hiding among the trees!
