Today, Embley hosted the third in its series of Primary Mathematics Masterclasses in association with the Royal Institution (Ri). The workshops offer students an opportunity to investigate mathematical ideas outside the curriculum and explore the wider aspects of the subject.
Budding mathematicians from Prince’s Mead, Sherborne House and Whiteparish All Saints Primary School joined children from Embley Prep School to work enthusiastically on mathematics activities with a Valentine’s Day theme. The first involved using mathematical patterns in curve stiching. Next they used a mathematical model to show that every baby is a Royal Baby as we are all related to Charlemagne. Finally the children used mobius bands to create unexpected shapes including two interlocking hearts.
