Embley’s Art department invites pupils to enter a range of local, national and international creative competitions. They are open to pupils from age 4 to 18 (with some categories for parents and teachers) and will showcase talent in photography, art, fashion design and dress making. We encourage as many of our pupils as possible to enter these fantastic co-curricular enrichment opportunities and receive the just recognition for their creative talents.

Rotary Interschool Photographic Competition  

This year’s challenge is to create a photograph which reflects the theme of ‘harmony’, giving great scope for your own creativity and interpretation. There are various age group categories running for 4 to 18 years and a category for parents and teachers. Winning entries will receive prizes of cash vouchers and photographic books. An overall trophy winner will be announced at an exhibition of selected entries. Deadline for entries is Wednesday 13 February.

Royal Academy Young Artists Summer Show

A national competition run by the prestigious Royal Academy and aimed at pupils aged 7 to 19. There is no theme and artwork can be in any media. Winners will receive vouchers for art materials plus a free workshop at their school. Chosen work will be displayed at the Royal Academy this summer. Deadline for entries is Wednesday 8 May. 

National Wildlife Competition 

Encouraging young people to express their concern for the environment. This year’s theme is ‘Habitats of the World’. Open to pupils under 16 years of age, the deadline for entries is Thursday 31 January. Successful entries will be displayed at the National History Museum. 

International Art Competition

Open to pupils aged 15 to 18 from around the world, each country holds a competition to identify a national winner who then has the opportunity to travel, all expenses paid, to Tokyo to see his/her artwork displayed in the National Art Centre. In the UK, this competition is only open to pupils at Embley and other United Learning schools. Deadline for entries is Thursday 28 February. 

Independent Schools Association Artist of the Month 

A new national competition with a winner every month. Open to pupils of all ages. Deadline is the last Friday of every month. 

Fashion Design Competition

Design a multi-functional outfit using wool and have the chance of winning a cash prize of £1,000, a trophy, a short course at London College of Fashion, either a sewing machine or overlocker and a one-year subscription to Vogue. Open to pupils aged 16 to 18. Deadline for entries is Thursday 14th March. 

Dressmaking Competition

Finalists from this competition are invited to attend the Knitting & Stitching Show and wear their garment on a catwalk. Deadline for entries is Monday 11 February.
