Embley has a long standing tradition of welcoming students from all over the world. International students stay in our Boarding House and they make a major contribution to our community and we welcome applications for our Senior School and Sixth Form. We work with families and agents to ensure the smoothest admissions process and we hold a UKVI licence to sponsor children through the Student Route to obtain their visas to study at our school.
Due to high demand, please apply as early as possible to secure a place. However, places can become available at any time, so please contact us to check.
Language level guidelines
We expect our international students to be at a certain language level, depending on the year they intend to join Embley. We use the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for languages. Our minimum requirements are as follows:
For students who are not fluent English speakers or writers when they arrive, we provide tailored English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to meet their individual needs so that they can enjoy and fully benefit from the pace of learning at Embley.
Applying for a student visa
From 5 October 2020, all new international students coming to study in the UK on or after 1 January 2021, including students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland will need to apply for a student visa.
The Student route, which will replace the Tier 4 route, improves on the previous Tier 4 route making for a more streamlined experience for both sponsoring institutions and students. Visas that have been issued through the Tier 4 route are still valid and those eligible will still be able to apply for the Graduate Route when it opens in summer 2021.
Embley’s friendly and experienced Admissions Department are able to help guide its international students through the new system so that they can obtain a visa to study at Embley.
