Covid-19: Providing Continuity of Learning

2020 A Level & GCSE Examination Results

ur 2020 GCSE and A Level students excelled. Showing tenacity, diligence and grace they continued to work hard, with the support and direction of our teachers, to complete their studies remotely and without public examinations.

For the third consecutive year we achieved a year-on-year improvement across our grades with 56% achieving A*-A, 92% securing A*-B and 98% attaining A*-C at A Level. At GCSE, 51.8% obtained grade 9 to 7 (A*-A) and 99.6% were awarded grade 4+ (A*-C).

Our value-added was +0.9% for A Level and +0.8% for GCSE which means that children who came to Embley achieved almost a grade above that which they would have been expected to achieve elsewhere. This is the sort of work that places us in the top 0.7% nationally.

Most A Level pupils going to university from Embley secured their first choice, with destinations including Queen Mary University of London, Royal Holloway, and universities of Warwick, Cardiff, Southampton and Exeter alongside international destinations.

“This is a huge achievement and testament to our view that an authentic school is not a binary proposition, that you can have a school where children are exposed to a range of experiences and opportunities and continue to do well in public examinations.”
